The Apple Barn
In 2001, Pete’s family purchased a home on Cherry Brook Road in the historic district of Canton, Connecticut — a charming New England town in the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains. Together, they transformed two historic apple barns into a woodworking shop, which became Cherry Brook Woodworks. For decades, Pete has built furniture from this unique shop nestled in the hillside of his property. To him, the space is more than just a shop — it’s where he honed his skills, created lasting memories for clients, raised a family, and built a business rooted in craftsmanship and tradition. Pete’s wife and two boys have played a critical role in his growth as a furniture maker. Their support and encouragement allowed him to pursue his passion and build a life around his craft.

Working with Pete
Pete understands that furniture is personal. Every piece is made by hand to fit the style, space and needs of the customer. To Pete, the process matters just as much as the final piece, and the relationship he builds with clients is at the heart of what he does. He values listening and collaboration, and finds great joy in bringing each client’s vision to life.
Pete strives to create the finest custom furniture through thoughtful design, exceptional craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail. Whether building a new piece or restoring and repairing a treasured one, his goal is to honor the materials, history and purpose behind each project. By offering a level of customization and personal involvement that many larger shops cannot, he creates furniture that is unique, meaningful and built to last for generations.
Education & Training
At the age of 16, Pete and his father built a post-and-beam barn together. It was Pete’s first experience working with hand tools, and the beginning of a lifelong connection to woodworking. A seed had been planted. After graduating from the University of New Hampshire with a degree in Environmental Science and Marine Biology, that seed had taken root. Pete made a career change, moved to Boston, and enrolled in a school specializing in furniture making, beginning the journey that would lead him to become a professional furniture maker.
Following his specialized education, Pete worked for several shops in Connecticut making custom and period furniture and doing antique restoration. Early in his career, he was blessed to work alongside and train under a master German furniture maker. During this mentorship, he learned closely guarded techniques and traditions of fine furniture making rarely taught outside of a school.
