The Gracie Mansion Conservancy commissioned Cherry Brook Woodworks to replicate twenty-four chairs (20 side chairs and 4 arm chairs) for display and use in the historic Gracie Mansion located at 181 East End Ave in New York City.
Originally, the Conservancy commissioned Cherry Brook Woodworks to reproduce one arm chair to fill out a set of eight. Two chairs (one period and one replica) were delivered to Gracie Mansion for board members and staff to review before twenty-four antique reproduction chairs were completed.
Gracie Mansion has been the official residence of New York mayors since 1942 and offers public tours and events in the riverside garden. Built in 1799 as a summer residence for the prosperous shipping merchant Archibald Gracie, it is one of the oldest surviving wood structures in Manhattan and is a member of The Historic House Trust.
