This American Federal shield back chair is based on one currently in the Kaufman Collection. I have produced two sets of twelve of this particular style. New York, Rhode Island and possibly Salem may have produced this form. The legs are inlayed with box wood with a satin wood cuff. The back is carved by hand and the finish is shellac. Cuban mahogany was used for the chair photographed.
