These Philadelphia racquet back chairs should be considered as a “hybrid” reproduction. It is based on a chair attributed to John Aitken, Philadelphia, circa 1795-1810. As a “hybrid”, some design changes were made based on the clients requests. The overall chair was made larger than the original so everything was scaled accordingly. The legs, originally tapered with a line inlay were changed to a reeded spade foot. The arms were originally very plain so a more ornate style was added. Overall the design changes made for a very attractive chair.
