All of the tables at Cherry Brook Woodworks are custom ordered and custom made to each clients specifications. Clients will contact me with pictures or have a general idea of what they want and then ask for my input/design ideas. If you have a unique size, style, or color in mind, I am sure it can be built. Below is a brief guideline to ordering a custom made farm table.
Size– In determining the size of your table, knowing how many people you want to accommodate and the size of your room is the first place to start. A standard rule is 22″-24″ per person to sit comfortably. Table height is usually 29 1/2″ to 30″ tall. Having the ability to expand your table may be beneficial if you entertain large numbers. Some styles of tables can be split in the middle to allow for large expansion while others are limited.
Wood- Farm tables are typically made in solid wood in either cherry, maple, pine or walnut. In selecting your material for the table, each species offers different colors, grain patterns, and hardness. All of my lumber is either locally harvested or FSC certified sustainably harvested to not harm the environment.
Table can also be made in reclaimed or salvaged wood. Reclaimed wood often varies tremendously in characteristics of worm holes, nail holes and general age and color. Please contact me for available options.
Breadboard ends- The tables can either have plain ends or breadboard ends. The breadboard end acts as both a decorative and functional element. Originally designed to help keep table tops flat, it hides the end grain of the boards. Please see my joinery gallery for images of breadboard ends.
Construction- I build furniture to out live you and I. Its really that simple. I do this by using time proven traditional woodworking techniques-mortise and tenon joinery, hand cut dovetails etc. I do NOT use screws, dowels, or loose tenon dominos. Please see the joinery gallery for images of these joints.
Finishes- All of my colors are customized to your specifications. Samples are provided. I also work in a wide variety of finish types. Oil, shellac, lacquer and even more durable finishes are available. All finishes offer different looks, level of protection, and reparability that need to be taken in consideration.
Delivery- I have shipped furniture nationally using movers that specializes in furniture. We can discuss what options are best for your location.
